Today the view from Annan Shore is one of tranquility across the expanse of sand and mudflats, edged with a delicate carpet of pink thrift.
Between 1862 - 1921 the scene was dominated by an iron viaduct spanning the breadth of the Solway, used by the Solway Junction Railway to transport iron ore from Whitehaven to Lanarkshire.
